Healthcare In Malaysia

I've been watching the SiCKO by Michael Moore which is a documentary about health care in the United States. The documentary explains how the health care is so much related to the insurance companies and corruptions that is involved. Here's something that I saw in the documentary:

• Hospitals need to confirm with insurance companies before accepting patients.
• Those without insurance coverage will be asked whether they can afford the treatment before receiving it.
• If you have insurance but the treatment cost is far greater than the covered amount you can get bankrupt.
• Insurance companies will try to find a way to make patients had breached agreement so that no coverage money will be paid.
• Some insurance companies will only accept treatments by specified hospitals.
• Some hospitals will only accept patients being covered by specified insurance companies.
• Patients who are not able to pay for their treatment will be kicked out.

Those are just a few that I thought I saw in the movie so take a look by yourself by using this link.

After watching that documentary I was wondering can something like that happen in Malaysia. I believe some of those situations are already happening but the difference is we can still rely on the government hospitals. I don't know anything about health care in Malaysia so correct me if I'm wrong.

In Malaysia there are free treatments but not for all kind of illnesses and not for long. Some illnesses require subsequent treatment or medication that is not performed or supplied by the government hospitals. For example people with kidney failure will require dialysis to clean their blood and those with diabetes will require frequent insulin shots. The questions are: Does those treatments free? How long they can be free? How much a patient will have to spend for their chronic diseases? What happen if they cannot afford their

treatment?

I'm also wondering what is the difference between a private and public hospitals in Malaysia. What kind of services are different? Specialist centers are private or public institutions? If the best services are provided by private institutions then only those whose capable can receive such treatments. How about those with lower income whose not able to pay for high treatment cost or even have insurance coverage?

After watching the documentary I did log into the WHO website to check for some statistics. I found out that Malaysian would have to spend about 55 percent on their health care and the rest is by government (if I interpret the data correctly) which is about similar to the United States. Private expenditure on health in France and United Kingdom is only 12 to 20 percent. Our neighbors Singapore and Thailand are 68 percent and 36 percent respectively. I checked this out because the documentary shows that France and the UK give free medical treatments to their people. If I was wrong about the data in the WHO website please correct me.

I would like to hear from people who have knowledge or experience about our local health care system and hopefully can answer all questions in this post. I cannot make any statement because I really don't know how it works.

Jenayah Paling Bodoh Di Poland Tahun 2009

Julai 2009 di bandar Gdynia, seorang lelaki cuba mencuri plat nombor pendaftaran dari sebuah kereta. Pencuri tersebut terlalu mabuk sehingga tidak menyedari kereta tersebut adalah kereta polis dan terdapat anggota polis di dalam kereta terbabit.

April 2009, polis Warsaw menahan seorang lelaki yang mencuri tisu tandas dari sebuah restoran dan merosakkan pemegang tisu yang berharga $120. Lelaki tersebut boleh dikenakan tahanan penjara selama 10 tahun.

Satu lagi kes di Lublin Voivodeship pada bulan Mac 2009. Dua lelaki mencuri 6,000 zloty (lebih kurang $2,500) dari sebuah koperasi perumahan. Mereka mengisi duit yang dicuri di dalam beg plastik tetapi akibat terlalu berat beg tersebut terkoyak. Pencuri kemudian membuang beg tersebut dan hanya mengambil 300 zloty. Polis dapat menjejaki pencuri tersebut melalui alamat rumah yang dijumpai bersama beg plastik.

Seorang lelaki berumur 55 tahun menghadapi hukuman penjara cuba untuk bersembunyi dari pihak berkuasa. Polis mendapat maklumat lelaki tersebut tinggal di pinggir bandar Minsk-Mazovetsky. Apabila pegawai polis tiba di kawasan tersebut mereka mendapati sekumpulan lelaki sedang minum vodka dan lelaki yang mereka cari sedang menyamar sebagai meja.

11 Kesilapan Di Facebook Yang Menamatkan Kerjaya

Berhati-hati menggunakan Facebook sebab kesilapan kecil boleh membawa padah yang besar.

1. Sindiran Pedas

Gloria Gadsden, seorang professor sosiologi di Pennsylvania's East Stroudsburg University suka membuat sindiran di Facebook. Pada bulan Januari Gloria menulis "Does anyone know where I can find a very discreet hit man? Yes, it's been that kind of day." dan di bulan Februari dia menulis "Had a good day today. DIDN'T want to kill even one student." Pihak universiti mengambil berat perkara tersebut berikutan kes-kes yang pernah berlaku pada tahun-tahun yang lepas. Gadsden diberikan cuti tanpa gaji selama sebulan dan dibenarkan kembali bekerja pada bulan Mac.

2. Mulut Murai

Seorang anggota polis di Atlanta, US diberhentikan perkhidmatan selepas menyebarkan informasi sulit mengenai kerjanya di Facebook. Antara yang tersebar adalah penglibatan dengan FBI dalam sebuah kes dadah, waktu kerja sebagai polis berpakaian biasa, dan pengakuan bahawa dia tidak gembira dengan kerjaya tersebut.

3. Sayang Bapa

Disember, selepas ketua eksekutif General Motors Fritz Henderson meninggalkan syarikat dan diganti oleh Ed Whitacre, anak perempuan Henderson, Sarah Henderson menulis di halaman Facebook General Motors dan menulis "HE F------ GOT ASKED TO STEP DOWN ALL OF YOU F------ IDIOTS. IM FRITZ'S F------ DAUGHTER, AND HE DID NOT F------ RESIGN. WHITACRE IS A SELFISH PIECE OF S---, WHO CARES ABOUT HIMSELF AND NOT THE F------ COMPANY. HAVE FUN WITH GM, I HOPE TO NEVER BUY FROM THIS GOD FORESAKEN COMPANY EVERY AGAIN. F--- ALL OF YOU."

Tiada maklumat berkenaan apa yang berlaku selepas itu.

4. Cakap Besar

Februari, seorang pengawal penjara di Nebraska bercakap besar di Facebook untuk menghentak kepala seorang banduan ke lantai. Dua lagi pengawal penjara turut menyatakan sokongan terhadap tindakan tersebut. Pihak pentadbiran tidak berpuas hati dan akhirnya ketiga-tiga pengawal penjara kehilangan kerja pada bulan Mac.

5. Mati Pun Salah

Kebiasaannya orang awam tidak dibenarkan melihat mangsa bunuh termasuk dalam bentuk gambar. Seorang juruteknik perubatan kecemasan di New York telah menyebarkan gambar-gambar seorang mangsa yang dibunuh menggunakan wayar pengering rambut. Dia kehilangan kerja selepas insiden tersebut.

6. Maki Tak Kena Tempat

Dan Leone, seorang pekerja operasi di stadium pasukan NFL Philadelphia Eagles tidak berpuas hati selepas pasukan tersebut membiarkan Brian Dawkins menyertai Denver Broncos. Dan Leone menulis kepada seorang rakan di Facebook "Dan is [expletive] devastated about Dawkins signing with Denver … Dam Eagles R Retarted!!". Walaupun dia memadamkan tulisan tersebut, Philadelphia Eagles memecat Leone beberapa hari selepas itu melalui telefon.

7. Gosip Panas

Tiga belas jururawat dan pekerja di Hospital Harrisburg, Pennsylvania dipecat selepas menubuhkan kumpulan sembang di Facebook yang mempunyai unsur perkauman. Beberapa jururawat memfailkan saman gantirugi yang masih lagi belum selesai.

8. Keluhan Negatif

Kimberley Swann baru bekerja sebagai pentadbir syarikat di Ivell Marketing and Logistics di Essex, U.K. Pada hari pertama dia menulis "First day at work. Omg (oh my God)!! So dull!!" Dua hari kemudian, "All I do is shred holepunch n scan paper!!!" Ketua syarikat mengetahui hal tersebut dan memecat Kimberley tiga minggu selepas itu.

9. Langit Tak Selalu Cerah

Virgin Atlantic memecat 13 kru kabin selepas menyiarkan tanggapan mereka mengenai piawai keselamatan syarikat dan menggelar penumpang sebagai "chavs" - Slanga English untuk orang yang perpendidikan rendah. Mereka turut menyatakan terdapat banyak lipas di dalam kapal terbang dan syarikat tersebut telah menukar enjin sebanyak 4 kali dalam setahun.

10. Ajar Dengan Baik

Ashley Payne, seorang guru di Apalachee High di Winder, Georgia menggunakan bahasa yang baik dan menyiarkan gambar bersiar dan minum minuman keras sewaktu berada di Eropah. Pengetua sekolah menyifatkan tindakan tersebut tidak sesuai bagi seorang guru dan meminta Payne untuk berhenti kerja. Payne telah memfailkan saman berkenaan perkara ini.

11. Emo??

Di U.K, seorang pengguna Facebook bernama Lindsay memberitahu rakan-rakannya: "My boss is a total 'pervvy wanker.'" Malang sekali bos tersebut yang juga seorang rakan di Facebook membalas dengan berkata: "Don't bother coming in tomorrow."
