Vivid

It's been a while since I had a vivid dream. A dream that I can clearly understand and I can see all the faces of those people in the dream. Last night I had one. I enjoyed the dream so much that I was an hour late for my job. During the sleep I was just living the dream but then when I woke up I realize the dream was all about what had always been in my mind lately. There was a part in the dream which is about my job and there was a part where I met a girl. Nothing romantic but just a meeting. I love having a vivid dreams because for me they are rare. Most of the times all the dreams that I had were gone right after I woke up and I can't remember a thing. Usually my dreams are about thing that I've been always thinking about. Being able to remember a dream tells me that I worry too much about something and I should try to relax myself. Kind of a self therapy.

Healthcare In Malaysia

I've been watching the SiCKO by Michael Moore which is a documentary about health care in the United States. The documentary explains how the health care is so much related to the insurance companies and corruptions that is involved. Here's something that I saw in the documentary:
  • Hospitals need to confirm with insurance companies before accepting patients.
  • Those without insurance coverage will be asked whether they can afford the treatment before receiving it.
  • If you have insurance but the treatment cost is far greater than the covered amount you can get bankrupt.
  • Insurance companies will try to find a way to make patients had breached agreement so that no coverage money will be paid.
  • Some insurance companies will only accept treatments by specified hospitals.
  • Some hospitals will only accept patients being covered by specified insurance companies.
  • Patients who are not able to pay for their treatment will be kicked out.
Those are just a few that I thought I saw in the movie so take a look by yourself by using this link.

After watching that documentary I was wondering can something like that happen in Malaysia. I believe some of those situations are already happening but the difference is we can still rely on the government hospitals. I don't know anything about health care in Malaysia so correct me if I'm wrong.

In Malaysia there are free treatments but not for all kind of illnesses and not for long. Some illnesses require subsequent treatment or medication that is not performed or supplied by the government hospitals. For example people with kidney failure will require dialysis to clean their blood and those with diabetes will require frequent insulin shots. The questions are: Does those treatments free? How long they can be free? How much a patient will have to spend for their chronic diseases? What happen if they cannot afford their
treatment?

I'm also wondering what is the difference between a private and public hospitals in Malaysia. What kind of services are different? Specialist centers are private or public institutions? If the best services are provided by private institutions then only those whose capable can receive such treatments. How about those with lower income whose not able to pay for high treatment cost or even have insurance coverage?

After watching the documentary I did log into the WHO website to check for some statistics. I found out that Malaysian would have to spend about 55 percent on their health care and the rest is by government (if I interpret the data correctly) which is about similar to the United States. Private expenditure on health in France and United Kingdom is only 12 to 20 percent. Our neighbors Singapore and Thailand are 68 percent and 36 percent respectively. I checked this out because the documentary shows that France and the UK give free medical treatments to their people. If I was wrong about the data in the WHO website please correct me.

I would like to hear from people who have knowledge or experience about our local health care system and hopefully can answer all questions in this post. I cannot make any statement because I really don't know how it works.

English is Very Easy.. Just Speak Up

I've been writing this blog in English and Bahasa Melayu since the end of 2008. What I notice since then is that posts in Bahasa Melayu attracts most of the Malaysian readers while the posts in English get their readers mostly from oversea. I know this because I use Google Analytic to analyze who and where my blog readers are. I also notice that English articles rarely get any comment. I wonder why is this happening. Does Malaysian does not read English?

I'm writing this to promote the importance of English in our life. Everyday in my life almost 80% or written materials either hard-copies or digital are in English. Signboards, banner advertising, or billboards are now being published in English. Can we still ignore the messages just because we can't understand. Almost everybody love to watch movies and most of them in English. Do we still need to rely on subtitles to understand the story? Problems will get worse regarding to career. Unable to speak and understand English clearly will bring us nowhere. I have a real story for you. This happened about 2 weeks ago to my friend who had graduated with an honorable degree. Right after he finished his study, my friend managed to get a job with a company, After about a month working with the company, he resigned (or maybe advised to quit) because he cannot understand what his boss asked him and also cannot provide feedback to his boss and co-workers. You don't want something like this to happen to you.

Jobstreet.com had organized a campaign to improve our English and help career seekers to shine in front of thousands employers in Malaysia or perhaps around the world. You can check your level of English with this campaign and also try to improve using the tools provided. Everything is free of charge so don't worry that you might need to spend something for this.

Please take a look at the (IM)PROVE YOUR ENGLISH Campaign and enjoy with the contents on the page. Just have fun with English and it will be very easy.

Banjir Malaysia (Malaysian Flood)

First of all, I'm apologizing for the use of English because I can't write this in Bahasa Melayu or I will sound like your Bahasa Melayu teacher in school. I've already mentioned previously that I will not use English anymore in this blog but I really can't commit to that promise. It is better to express my mind in English because if I'm using formal Bahasa Melayu it feels like I'm writing a newspaper article and if I'm using the 'rojak' language as in my daily conversation I will still use some English words or sentences.

OK here's what came to my mind just now. I believe that the Prime Minister of Malaysia (no matter who that person is) should take actions to prevent big flood from happening again. Using the tax payers' money to prevent such damage to occur to them is much better than paying compensation or victim charity donation which are not productive at all. Big flood cause a lot of damage to agriculture, housing, transportation, and fishery. Those are worth millions of tax. Another significant fact is that most of those affected by floods are those who are in the average or lower income group. They earn just enough for their living and now they have to spend more to cover the damages by the flood. I am also believed that there are no insurance company that will cover your house or vehicles from damages caused by flood. Takaful have plans for fire, and typhoon damages for every type of housing but I'm not sure if they also cover flood damages.

Prevention is always better than curing and the steps are very simple. Ask the Minister of Works to set up a team to eliminate the problem. We have Public Works Department, Board of Engineers, and universities that can be utilised to find the BEST and COST EFFECTIVE solution. There are thousands of fresh engineering graduates finished their study every year so there are no excuse for no manpower for the job. The most effective way is to call the JPA sponsored graduates to work than letting them run away with their free education. We have so many universities and each of them have hundreds of scholars including Dr.s and Prof.s and don't say that they are all busy with their research that nobody will care to prevent flood from ruining their life. There are already too many brains available to find a solution to a problem so there should be no more excuse.

Then why there are still no actions? Is it politics? Everytime it involves a minister it will always about politics. This party want to do this but this party is against it because the most important thing in the mind of the politicians are the votes from public. From my point of view, the political parties (all of them) will try to find the BEST and COST EFFECTIVE way to gain public votes without having to spend more on satisfying them.

Why we are far behind?

don’t u think that malaysian are very creative.. in modifications mostly. Take the "Mat Rempit" for example, either with bikes or cars. Most of them are very creative in modifying there bikes or cars to get the best of power. Malaysians are also very brave and not afraid to try new things. Everyday there thousand of teenagers involve in drug addiction and many more to cigarettes just because they want to try something new.

this time i just want to say something about the creativity of malaysians. other topics.. later.. whats written here are just from my head so if there anybody who does not agree to these statement please dont hesitate to complain.

just when i was.. i don’t remember what was i’m doing that time.. i’ve wondered why malaysians cant produce a very good car model that can compete with the japanese or europeans. even the americans and koreans are now had taken place in malaysia. i heard that later maybe the chinese will try their luck too. so what will happen to proton??

as i an an engineering student, i wonder where are all the malaysians engineers. Why the current engineers unable to build everything on their own. everythings need to be helped. this issue is not in the automotive industry only. i thick come to my mind was.. malaysian copy people since in they were in schools. most of our students just copy the homeworks or assignments from their friends. this habit is then stick to their life forever. it is like smoking.. very hard to quit isn’t it.. our engineers may have the creativity and might found new innovations of technology but then the economy or manufacturing technology becomes the limitation. their boss might not agree with the cost. then, the only thing they are available to do is just modifying the available technology and call it our own.

if our students love to copy from others.. they must copy from someone.. someone who do his work on his own. lets say his name is A. so they are a few people like A in malaysia but why cant they do something. i think they cant do much because most of them prefer to further their study and then become lecturer in universities. later la i continue this..

Dreams

It's been a while since I had a nice dream... or maybe I don't remember. By the way I'm talking about dreams that you had when you're asleep.. not those when you're awake. Last night I had a nice dream. A dream which had me in a place where everybody was so nice. They gave me things like I've saved their lives. Of course most dreams are mixed up with things you won't understand just as said by Miss Saya. What's more interesting is that dream was like a continuation of one that I had previously. Some people in that dream had appeared in some dreams that I had previously but I don't think I've met them in real life. With more characters appeared and related to each other, I'm looking forward to know the rest of the story. Having that dream was like watching a TV series but the problem is I don't really know when will I have it again.

I always believed that dreams are related to what happened in our real life. It is either about something that we really wanted, really worried about, stresses, or about things that we've spend most of our daily life with. I had dreams about assignments when there were too many assignments or jobs unfinished and I had dreams about being somewhere in Europe because I really wanted to be there. Dreaming about a girl would mean that she's always in my mind. Sometimes only after having a dream about something makes me noticed that I thought about it too much. But most of the time we dreamed about things we don't understand. Dreams that couldn't give us any explanations or the reason why we're having them. These dreams make us curious and wondered.

Since I was a kid, I noticed that every time I had a bad fever I'll be having a quite similar dream. The ambiance, feeling, and spooky surrounding in those dreams were similar. Once I had this kind of dream, I knew I'm having a bad fever. Some dreams make you laugh while some make you scream. I had dreams that make me laugh till I wake up and scaring people around me. The worst case I had was when I dreamed about something so scary that I screamed and my roommate thought I was possessed. Some dreams were really nice that we wished they would become true while some were so bad that we're thankful they were only dreams. Did you know that in Japanese folklore, tapirs (or tenuk in Malay language) can eat people's dreams.

おかえり

That was the ending clip of a Japanese drama, Zettai Kareshi (Absolute Boyfriend). A story about a woman looking for a perfect guy. One day she received an android that was programmed with everything she want in a guy. Everything!... and that's all I can tell you. Watch it yourself to know the rest of the story. It is a romantic comedy and you should be happy watching the story. The ending song title is Okaeri (Welcome home) by the beautiful Ayaka Iida who pronounced 'R' as 'L'. Somehow that makes her sound cuter. A beatiful song because the great voice and cheerful melody. I have the translated English lyric but I don't think I should put it here.

I really want to learn Japanese language so that I don't have to rely on subtitles to understand the stories I'm watching. Actually I want to learn as many language as I can. I love to learn language because it is a very beautiful form of art and I really hate when I can't understand what people around me are saying. I'm a curious person and that makes me curious even more. Ever watched a Chinese comedy movie in a cinema full of Chinese? Most of the non-Chinese will laugh a fraction later that the Chinese because we had to read the subtitles before understanding the jokes. The worst case is when no subtitles appeared for a joke and all the Chinese laugh but you can only smile.

I've learned some Mandarin but can't only understand a bit when I listen to it in the television. Still not enough to let me understand the full story. Since last year I've been learning Japanese for myself from a book and by watching movies and drama series. Managed to understand and speak something but with nobody to practice with, both my Japanese and Mandarin has faded day by day. Is there anybody can be my teacher? I'll be really happy if anybody want to practice any language with me.

Men and Woman Again

Received this in my email. Might be worth sharing.

Difference between Women and Men

1.NAMES
If Laurie, Linda, Elizabeth and Barbara go out for lunch, they will call each other Laurie, Linda, Elizabeth and Barbara.
If Mark, Chris, Eric and Tom go out, they will affectionately refer to each other as Fat Boy, Godzilla, Peanut-Head and Scrappy.

2.EATING OUT
When the bill arrives, Mark, Chris, Eric and Tom will each throw in a $20, even though it's only for $32.50. None of them will have anything smaller and none will actually admit they want change back.
When the women get their bill, out come the pocket calculators.

3.MONEY
A man will pay $2 for a $1 item he needs.
A woman will pay $1 for a $2 item that she doesn't need, but it's on sale

4.BATHROOMS
A man has five items in his bathroom: a toothbrush, shaving cream, razor, a bar of soap, and a towel from the Marriott.
The average number of items in the typical woman's bathroom is 337. A man would not be able to identify most of these items

5.ARGUMENTS
A woman has the last word in any argument.
Anything a man says after that.. is the beginning of a new argument.

6.CATS
Women love cats.
Men say they love cats, but when women aren't looking, men kick cats.

7.FUTURE
A woman worries about the future until she gets a husband.
A man never worries about the future until he gets a wife.

8.SUCCESS
A successful man is one who makes more money than his wife can spend.
A successful woman is one who can find such a man.

9.MARRIAGE
A woman marries a man expecting he will change, but he doesn't.
A man marries a woman expecting that she won't change , but she does.

10. DRESSING UP
A woman will dress up to go shopping, water the plants, empty the garbage, answer the phone, read a book, and get the mail.
A man will dress up for weddings and funerals.

11. NATURAL
Men wake up as good-looking as they went to bed.
Women somehow deteriorate during the night.

12. OFFSPRING
Ah, children. A woman knows all about her children. She knows about dentist appointments and romances, best friends, favorite foods, secret fears and hopes and dreams.
A man is vaguely aware of some short people living in the house.

13. THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
Any married man should forget his mistakes. There's no use in two people remembering the same thing

What would you say about this? Leave your comments.

Alexa Rank Update Nomo 1

This is just a short post to show how the Alexa Toolbar and Rank Widget really influence a blog's or website's Alexa traffic rank and also to prove that Alexa loves those who uses it's services. As you can see in the figure, my traffic rank was 6,546,775 before I started to use the toolbar. This blog was started in November 2008 and in early January 2009 my rank was 10mil+. I though the rank will be updated each month so I wait for February for my new rank. Unfortunately the rank still maintained on that figure. After reading some articles, I've installed the toolbar and widgets. The results was surprising as the traffic rank changed dramatically to 2,742,399 just after two days. Traffic rank on my other blogs with the widgets were also changed. Then I though this was a bonus for using the Alexa's services and the ranks would maintain for a month or more. A week later, the ranks changed again and now I know that the ranks are really calculated on the 3 month average and they are updated daily but you'll need to use the toolbar and widgets for the daily update to happen.

Skype 4.0 for Windows has been released. Other versions are also available for Windows, Mac OS X, Linux, Windows Mobile, WiFi phones, Cordless phones, 3 Skypephone, and Nokia N800/N810.

What's interesting about Skype? Skype is a software that allow you to make free call over the internet for free with other Skype users. How can it be free? Data such as images or text as what you are reading now are sent through the internet to a specific user by using the internet protocol (IP). This IP is like an identification card or passport for every internet users. Skype managed to also squeeze voices into the internet connection so that other user can hear you in split-second. All you need to have is a broadband connection, microphone, and speaker for free unlimited calls. Maybe you'll want to have a headset for privacy and webcam to be sure who you are talking to. So, if you and your girlfriend/boyfriend are both have what it need to use Skype, download it now instead of using your billed phones and worrying your ears will be baked by the microwave signals.

Okay that's enough for a promotion. Do you know that you can also make calls to any phones or mobiles anywhere in the world at low rates? Maybe calling your neighbor with regular phones is cheaper but if you want to call your Super Great Grandfather in Bahamas on his mobile phone, using Skype would definitely be cheaper. That Super Great Grandfather can also call you from his mobile to you pc. When you're tired of listening to that Super Great Grandfather, just reply him with sms directly from your pc. Unanswered calls will be recorded in voicemail or you can set call forwarding to your mobile phone.

For some people, headsets do not secure a true privacy. Therefore Skype offers WiFi phones that can be used to make Skype calls. Regular phones manufacturers also offer some models that is capable of making Skype calls. Some of these phones also have the functions of regular phones including 3G (HSPDA) and high-resolution cameras. Download Skype.

Basic HTML Knowledge

I write this just to give everybody some basic knowledge of HTML so that you can simply modify or edit your widget, layout, text, or banner in your blog to any style you want to. This is not a tutorial but just an information. What you have to do to understand this is to copy every text written in blue > paste in notepad > Save As "anything.html" (set the file type as All Files) > Then open the saved file in Firefox or Internet Explorer > Then compare what you see in the saved file with the text written in this article. If you thoroughly analyze them, you can simply understand the basic of setting font color, size, making links, banner, or any other attribute. In the code, there is also some string for you to make custom table so that you can insert it in your sidebar widget as I did in this blog.

Copy this:

<html>

<head>

How to Insert MySpace Music Player to Your Blog

Before this, I put desafm radio in this blog since it was requested by the radio owner. I actually don't like radio or any autoplay music in my blog or any blog that I visit. I've been using the MySpace Music Player in my MySpace profile for a few month and I think this is the best player to be placed in any web pages or blog since it does not play automatically and it has option to add up to 10 songs in the playlist. The audio quality is also very good. The only problem is there is no option in MySpace for you to embed the player to your site or blog. Fortunately, with a little knowledge of html, I manage to steal the player from the MySpace profile and embed it in this blog.

WARNING: This might violate MySpace Terms & Conditions and might cause your MySpace profile to be deleted.

This is how to do it:
  1. If you still don't have the player in your MySpace profile, go to MySpace Music, click on the My Music tab, search for your favorite songs, and add up to 10 songs to your My Public Playlist > My Profile Playlist. (Everytime you add a song, it will automatically added to the Public Playlist)
  2. Check the added songs by clicking on the My Profile Playlist link. You can manage the song position in the playlist here.
  3. After you done editing the playlist, test it by clicking on the Open Player button.
  4. Now view your MySpace profile (myspace.com/yourprofile). It might took a while for the player to appear in your profile.
  5. If you already have the player in your profile, view the source code of the profile page. (right-click > view source).
  6. Search for this strings: <!--[if !IE]>--> <object type="application/x-shockwave-flash" data="http://lads.myspace.com/videos/Main.swf" width=
  7. Copy everything starting from <object type= to </object>
  8. Go to your blogger dashboard, add a new HTML widget to your blog, and paste the code in the widget. You can try to change the width and height to match you blog sidebar.
  9. Now you're done and can enjoy the music on your own blog. If you want to change the songs, just go to your MySpace Music.
*This method have not been tested in Wordpress yet.

Slow-Mo Effect in Windows Vista

For Windows Vista users with Aero Theme, you'll notice a fade-in/fade-out animation when you minimize/maximize a window or when you open/close a window. Since the animation happened so fast and most of the time we just ignore it, there is a trick to slow down that animation whenever you want to. With a little tweak, you can slow down the animation just by holding down the Shift key. To enable the slow-mo effect, you'll have to do a little modification to the Registry.

Here's how to do it:
  1. Open the Run dialog box (Windows-key + R), type regedit (or regedit.exe), and then click OK (or press Enter) to open the Registry Editor. User Account Control might prompt you to allow the action, click Continue.
  2. Find the folder HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\DWM.
  3. Create a new DWORD (32-bit) value. (right-click > New > DWORD (32-bit) Value)
  4. Rename the DWORD value as AnimationShiftKey.
  5. Double-click the DWORD and give it a value of 1.
  6. Click OK and close the Registry Editor.
  7. Log off Windows and log back on again.
  8. Try the function by holding Shift key when you minimize/maximize a window or opening/closing a window.
*Note that this function does not work with every application or with other operating system.

3D Metallic RSS Feed Icon

This is another publication made with Catia. It feels good to contribute to people. Since RSS Icon did contribute attract readers to subscribe to our RSS Feed, I hope this is good enough to be an attraction. Since it is made in Catia, I've applied Steel as the material to give the shiny look. No video for this because there are something wrong with my codec :(
